How to Automatically Convert Excel to Google Sheets

Excel and Google sheets are the two most common spreadsheet applications which
are used officially across the globe. There are situations for Google sheet
users when they receive an Excel file and it becomes difficult for them to open
and edit it without having Excel on their desktops or laptops. However, most of

Opening Excel files in Google sheets
As soon as
you receive an Excel file, you need to upload it in your Google Drive first.
Open your Google drive and the top left corner, and click on “New”, from the
drop down menu search for the upload file option. Simply select the Excel file
you want to upload and after few seconds, the Excel file gets uploaded in your
Google Drive. Now you can open it easily with a double click without having

If you want
to make any further changes into the file which you have opened, you need to click
on “Open in Google Docs” option on the top of your screen. If you don’t find an
option on top of the screen, you can simply right click and select “open with
Google sheets”. The good thing is, whatever changes you will make in this file,
they will be updated in the Excel file as well.
Converting Excel to Google sheets
format
Now, if you
want to save that document in a Google sheet format, make sure that the file is
opened in Google sheets and then select “save as Google sheets” from the File
menu. You will have two separate copies of this file now; one in Google sheets
format and the other in Excel format. Now the changes which you will make in
Google sheets doc will remain active with Google sheets only, not with Excel.
If you want to set an automatic process to convert all your future Excel files
into Google sheets, you need to:
Open your
Google drive, click on the gear icon on the top right, on clicking it, you will
find a “setting” option, when you move your cursor on this settings options, it
will show some further options in which you have to select “Covert uploads”. By
clicking on “Convert uploaded files to Google Docs editor format” and click
“Done”. This will convert all your office files to Google Docs, Sheets or
Slides format.
